Human League, Soft Cell, and Alison Moyet at Masonic Temple
I went to the Masonic Temple to see The Human League with Soft Cell and someone largely unknown to me, Alison Moyet. The last mention was involved with the song “Situation“. A song I enjoy but forgot about. When she performed the song, I was standing up clapping my hands to that.
Going to the headliners, The Human League, they did The Things Dreams Are Made Of, Human, (Keep Feeling) Fascination, and of Course, Don’t You Want Me. And a great surprise to me, Seconds.
The song Seconds is a Philip Oakey solo. Both Joanne and Susan left the stage with Phil taking sole lead vocals. The song is about the JFK assassination. There was a part of that performance where Phil got animated. However, I have to say that this was one of the best moments I’ve had in 2026. It felt very special, and I had a smile on my face as I saw this. If you asked me in 2015 if I’d ever see this song performed live by The Human League themselves, I would say very unlikely. I’m very glad that happened. Another song played was “One Man In My Heart,” this one with Susan Ann Sulley as the lead singer. I’ve seen the music video for this song before, and according to Wikipedia, the song made it to #13 in the UK Singles Chart.
Before The Human League, it was Soft Cell with Marc Almond, with Dave Ball’s successor, plus two backup singers. I forgot all their names, not good with names! And they did a song on their upcoming album, set to be released in late 2026. And they finished with Tainted Love. At the end, they bowed to the crowd with the display up above.
Before them was Alison Moyet, quite unknown to me. I would later figure out that the song “Situation” was by her while she was in the duo Yazoo (Yaz in North America). I always thought that song was done by the Bayside Boys, I was wrong.
As you can see in the middle photo below, I decided not to wear one of my bucket hats. I was wearing one earlier while wandering in Downtown Detroit. And had drinks at The Eagle, watched Canada lose against Switzerland in the World Cup 26, and had food at Pho Lucky.
I stopped at Greektown Casino and I turned $20 to $7.50. I’ve done fucked up there. My other regret is that I arrived in Detroit around 4:30 pm. I knew ahead of time that the doors of the Masonic Temple open at 5:30 pm and Alison Moyet gets on stage at 7 pm. I wish I had gotten to Detroit at around 5:30pm instead. Also, I sat on the wrong seat at first when I got to Masonic Temple, and my ticket app kicked me out of the system. I remembered my password and had to go to the hallway for privacy and reenter my password. Then I got to the right seat.
Too many mistakes.
