US Debt Hits $40 Trillion. I Ain’t Surprised!
First, I want to say this week was harsh. I suffered a personal loss, and somebody I know had a heart attack; he’s okay, and he’s supposed to go home soon. High hopes for a speedy recovery.
I’m not terribly surprised that the debt has reached 40 trillion. It also doesn’t surprise me that this happened during the second year of Trump’s second presidency. And before my MAGA fans freak out, I wasn’t happy with Biden’s spending either. GWB, Obama and also Trump’s 1st term. It’s nice that the Government can print money to pay bills. But if you and I were to print money, we’d be thrown in jail.
An article predicting what Trump or Kamala Harris would add to the debt came out a week before Election 2024, which pushed me to vote for Harris. A vote I now regret; I should’ve voted for Chase Oliver. But in the end, it wouldn’t matter. I knew Trump and Musk’s Doge wouldn’t work. In fact, they added more to the debt. Even though I wasn’t a fan of Trump or the idea of Musk holding a federal government position, I did hope they would slash government spending. But that sure as shit didn’t work.
It wouldn’t surprise me if we get to 50 trillion in debt before I turn 50, (I’m 44). And I don’t fault Trump, Biden, Obama and Bush (the son) so much. Congress has a say in spending, and for the most part, one side won’t get along with the other. We do have Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) joining forces and saying the debt is getting out of control. Massie has been saying that for years, and he’s right.

I sure wish the government would stop spending so much and run a surplus. But the government isn’t going to listen to some asshole who shares the same name as the Matchbox Twenty singer. I had to sell some bond ETF’s for a loan to a family member so she can get a car. I’m looking at Bond ETFs that don’t rely on the government so much, minus 30-year treasuries.
