An E-Mail From Hubpages
I have been a HubPages user since around 2012. It was a substitute for a previous article writer when Helium.com went out of business. Helium.com offered a chance for opinion writers such as myself back in the 2000s. Sadly, Helium went down in 2014 (according to AI). That was a bummer because I made a few bucks on Helium. I have written about 20-something articles on HubPages from 2012 to 2019. These were articles about reviews of documentaries, a few books, Kansas’ albums from the time John Elefante was the singer, and when Opie and Anthony went after Joe Piscopo’s show, “A Night at Club Piscopo.”
The Email I received stated that they are winding down HubPages, with no more submissions allowed after November, and that people making money from HubPages will no longer receive their payments. I haven’t seen a payment from HubPages. My best article was the aforementioned Opie & Anthony going after Joe Piscopo. The Email says that existing accounts will remain open until the end of February 2026 and encourages me to make copies of my articles. I’m going to keep just a few articles that have generated the most hits. I won’t copy any articles with fewer than 300 hits, except for my Nightmare Board Game review. With that one, I’ll make another Special Ed Tale. When I played that game in 1996, the other player was the same friend mentioned in this post.
HubPages, to me, was a medium that article and opinion writers could use, offering a free platform, and also for those with no or little knowledge of creating their own website or managing WordPress or other content management systems. Additionally, I would say that HubPages would rank better than most independent websites on Google and other search engines in the early 2010s. Including all the times I’ve had my own personal site. I’ve had this site up and running since late 2019.
The landscape is changing, and HubPages is on its way out, just like Helium.com. However, I may be mistaken about the previous Helium.com; Helium had its servers in New York City. Maybe if they moved their servers to Bumblef**k, Iowa, they could have saved a lot of money? The servers that host this site are located in a remote area of Indiana. I’d imagine the folks who host this site save a few bucks on that location. But also, we have AI! One can say that’s another contributing factor with HubPages on its way to the grave.
