Matt Friend at The Comedy Bar / 2025 Michigan Libertarian Party Delegate Meeting
Went to Norwood Theatre’s basement addition called The Comedy Bar in Detroit. Been intrigued by comedian Matt Friend ever since this video below:
Matt Friend did not disappoint. I was laughing hard, and he does a good job for a comedian in his 20s. Most of my favorite living comedians were born in the 1960s. I don’t find many comedians younger than me who are as hilarious, but Matt Friend did very well. His Trump impersonation was spot on, and he also did a good job criticizing Biden. He also did a great job pretending to be that ghoul Mitch McConnell. Opening for him was Andrew Roffe.
The Norwood Theater was initially planned as the venue, but I was informed by a staff member there that it wouldn’t work, so the show had to be relocated to a downstairs location. My VIP seat was moved to the back, and I was a bit disappointed. I bought that VIP ticket to be up front, but that didn’t work out. Next time, I’d better ask the venue if it will be at The Norwood or below it. The Norwood is at a place in Downtown Detroit that I hardly visit—the Baltimore Street area.
I drank a few drinks at Time Will Tell bar, but I felt a little out of place in that bar. The music they played in there was mainly Oldies with a little bit of Yacht Rock. I ate at a pizza place next door, a Caesar Salad with a slice of pizza. Both of these combined cost me over $55. It’s getting quite expensive to go out and about these days.
One of my best friends shared a meme on Facebook, saying something along the lines of this: “This happens when I leave the house, I lose $100.” Same here after this weekend. I have some significant credit card bills to pay, and I also have $2,600 in dental debt that I’m trying to settle. What the hell am I doing?
I also attended one of the two Delegate meetings hosted by the Libertarian Party of Michigan. It was hosted at the DoubleTree at Port Huron. When I would watch the Motor City Rockers go against the Port Huron Prowlers at the McMorran Place, I would see advertisements for this hotel. I went there to see what these Delegate meetings are like. There was a big argument between a few people who were taking sides for the Treasurer position. I do remember two of the names of the six or seven people arguing, but I’ll keep their names off of here. Don’t want to be the asshole who leaks that info. I wasn’t a delegate, so I couldn’t vote.
The lunch break was 1.5 hours long. Chowed down on a Caesar Salad at the hotel restaurant. I was hoping the host would let me sit by some people at that meeting, but I was at a table all by myself with no nearby Libertarians to talk to. I should’ve asked to go to the bar. After that, I visited the Thomas Edison Depot Museum. I appreciated that, despite its small size, the entrance fee was $12. You fucking kidding me? But, I went anyway.
Since I brought my bike along, I left the meeting at 2:30 p.m. after speaking with a few people I know. And went on a bike ride around the Bridge To Bay trail. It was my first time. I was a bit disappointed that the same trial didn’t go all the way to Marysville, unless I made the wrong turn.
Also, this made me laugh. Happens more than you think!
