Election 2024
I won’t write a 2,000-word essay on my thoughts on election 2024. I’ll say this, I received a shitload of spam text messages. I also had to check my mail every 2-3 days, much as opposed to 2 weeks, to get all of these political flyers out of my mailbox and straight to the trash. Let’s not forget all the ads I saw on YouTube. I remember seeing two commercials in a row, with the first one bashing candidate Carl Marlinga (he was running for a seat in my district), then the next ad supporting him.
This time, I voted for Kamala Harris, a vote I now regret. When Biden passed the torch to Harris, I said it was either Harris or Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver. I wasn’t a fan of the Trump vs. Biden rematch. When the Republican primaries went on, I was hoping for someone else than Trump, but that didn’t work out for me in that one. So, I would watch Kamala Harris in interviews and look into her thoughts on policy. The more I dug in, the more I looked towards Chase Oliver. It wasn’t until about a week before the election that the CFRB released a report about the Fiscal Impact of Harris vs. Trump. I read it and decided to vote for Harris. One of my biggest concerns about this country is the national debt.
With Trump being President again, I don’t see him trying to pay off the national debt. Hell, we haven’t seen a positive number in the federal budget since 2000. I don’t think Trump is going to do this. I think the CFRB’s projections are correct; he will add more to the debt. If Harris won, I could see her raising taxes, but I couldn’t see her emphasizing the national debt. If anything, she was the lesser of two evils on that subject, so I gave her my vote. Do I like Kamala Harris? Is she the best thing since sliced bread, no and no.
I have had enough of political talk for the most part. I subscribed to Brian Tyler Cohen (lefty) and Ben Shapiro (righty) this year. On Election Day, I unsubscribed from both of them. I found having an open mind and listening to both sides very stressful and time-consuming. I’m just going to be a closed-minded Libertarian and stick to Reason.com for my political news and Peter Schiff (he is mostly economic). Perhaps I’ll expand my horizons down the road. I have no grudges with the PBS Newshour, but I’ll be staying away from that for a while.
There are a zillion more things I could say about the election, but most people reading this won’t give a shit, and I’m beginning not to give a shit (perhaps I should). Trump will do things I don’t like, and perhaps I’ll comment about that on this blog. Otherwise, I’m just going to live my life. See you soon with the next Caillou Gets Grounded episode.
